Following his glorious finish at the 2006 Ernst and Young World Entrepreneur Awards, Vikas Goel, Chairman and Managing Director of eSys Technologies, has bagged yet another coveted prize in less than two weeks since his return from Monte Carlo. This time around, he is the proud recipient of the Singapore Youth Award – the highest accolade presented to youths in recognition of their outstanding achievements and contributions to society.

Defence Minister Teo Che Hean gave away Singapore's highest youth accolade in a ceremony held at Istana on 2 July 2006.

Vikas Goel,35, who was nominated under the Entrepreneurship category beat 5 other nominees to win the award.  Commenting on his latest accolade,” As an entre- preneur, age definitely works in your favour because you have the energy and passion to make a difference in what you do. Plus, your ability to take risks is much higher. It works against you when you approach bankers and financial institutions. They perceive that a young man doesn't know what he's doing and they will not want to loan you any money, which is key to starting any business. But I believe that an award meant for the youth, in a sense, gives that credibility that, what you've been trying to do, you're on the right path.”

The Singapore Youth Award (SYA) which was instituted in 1975 honors young people whose achievements serve as an inspiration to others. Nominees who must be 35 years old and below are assessed by five Advisory Committees of experts in fields such as Arts and Culture, Community and Youth Services, Entrepreneurship, Science and Technology and Sports and Adventure. The awards will be given out this Sunday at the Istana by Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean.
